About RJ

RJ Mickelson (b. 1977) is an artist and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His work is comprised of mixed-media collage, drawing, and found art.

After several years working in New York City as a social worker counseling people who lost loved ones on 9/11, he enrolled in the photojournalism program at the International Center of Photography and began a new career in documentary and news photography. In both his photography and studio art practice, he is interested in ideas around masculinity, family, history, basketball, and death.

He is a lifelong Knicks fan.
